A Timeless Scene - The Helper

This is the Seventeenth image in the 'Timeless scene' series.

A BB18 1/4 express Locomotive stands idle on the wye of the township of Laidley, where a locomotive was often stabled for use as a Helper, on heavy trains heading east as they had to climb the 'Little Liverpool Range', one of, if not the, steepest grades on the entire Queensland system.

These mighty express engines were displaced from long distance trains by the introduction of diesels and often ended their lives on local passenger and goods trains as well as in shunting yards where their power was not utilized to its full effect.
